Comprehensive Guide to Google Data Studio For Beginners

Have you ever wondered what would be your marketing strategies if you will be well aware of your targeting audiences, marketing channels, demographics, etc?

Seems difficult…

Well, this can be possible if your marketing analyst will provide you with a   comprehensive report.

Nowadays “Data is a Kind” and it’s the backbone of marketing. It lets you know where to focus on, your potential customers, marketing channels and so much more.

To make the most of the data first you need to understand what it means.

For a better understanding of your data either you need a pro marketing analyst, paid third-party tools ( Unaffordable to many business owners ), or comprehensive report which you can understand by yourself.

Here Google Data Studio comes in. Unlike Google Analytics, Google Search Console, which gathers data and demonstrates limited insights, Google Data Studio goes all out to help you understand what your data is all about.

Read till the end to understand better. In this guide, we will walk through how to make the most of it and create your first report step by step.

What Google Data Studio is?

Google Data Studio is a powerful tool to help users and business owners use their data effectively.

Unlike Google Analytics it blends data from different sources and gives informative reports and interactive dashboard

Benefits of Google Data Studio

  1. It is Free to use.

  2. It takes data from different data sources like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Ads, etc blend it all and display a more accurate and understandable format.

  3. You can gauge your data and also help others by providing an informative and interactive dashboard ( bar, chart, graphs format, etc).

How to use Google Data Studio to make most of it?

First and foremost you will need a google account to access data studio. Press Here and you will redirect to data studio. Log in with your credentials and you are good to go.

Creating and sharing your reports with clients and stakeholders is very easy with Google Data Studio.

Just follow a few steps and you will create your own without any prior knowledge of it or coding.

It is very easy to use.

Step 1: Choose a Google Data Studio  Report Template

There are two ways to create your report either you can create from blank or you can go with the templates available there. An ample of templates are available to choose from

However, if you are a beginner, I recommend starting with a template where you can customize everything based on your requirements. Once you have a better understanding of it you can create your own template or make it from a blank report.

Here I pick one template to “Google Search Console” for your better understanding. With That template, we can learn everything like how to add data, how to customize it, share with others, and much more.

Step 2: Add Data Source to Google Data Studio

Once you have finalized the template move forward and copy report to use it.

Now you can customize as per your need like you can change the name, bar, graph share with the team, and more.

Add your data to the report by clicking add data.

You can choose where you want your data to come from. Many connectors i.e data sources are available like Google Analytics, Google Sheets, Google Ads. Campaign Manager 360. Ahref etc

Step 3: Customized Your Report Visualization

You have already added the data source in the last step i.e you have data with a template. Nearly everything on the template is customizable. You can sort the data by date, country, landing page and much more.

Once you sort the data click apply then the report will update its graph and chart to display.

If you want to add a new chart, just click add chart in the navigation bar.

Click what type of chart you want in your report.

Your cursor will become a PLUS sign to add the chart. Click dimensions from the properties panel in the side bar. This tells the data studio what you want the graph to be about.

Here you can add additional dimensions like landing page, country and more. You can change the style cy clicking style in the properties panel.

Here you will get more options to choose from , Pick whichever you like and make your report.

Step 4: Share your Google Data Studio Report

Once you have completed the report, now you can share with your boss, clients , stake holders or team.

Click share in the top right of your report.
