Ways To Improve Your Communication Skills

Learn the ways to improve communication skills if you want to land a good job and want to thrive in your personal and professional life.

  1. Be a Good Listener

During conversations, many people are planning their responses instead of listening to what the other person wants to convey. In order to improve your communication skills you need to listen well and understand the topic, formulate your response when they stop discussing and ask/ say if you have any doubts or want to discuss  anything more.

Additionally, Try to have one conversation at a time, means if you are engaged over phone call do not write a mail ( respond over mail/ chats) etc.

  1. Who you are talking to matters.

It is okay to use informal language or acronyms if you are talking with your friends but do not use informal words/ language or acronyms at your workplace. You might to be misunderstood.

  1. Body Language matters.

If you are in one-on-one meetings, face-to-face meetings even during video conferencing too do not try to show negative body language. Your body posture should be correct and positive. For example do not cross your arms while speaking with anyone or do not look anywhere else while speaking.

You should make eye contact and give undivided attention to the person next to you, with whom you are talking.

This is not confined to your workplaces only.

  1. Clear and Error Free Message

Whether you are responding over emails or DM or personal chats, do cross-check before hitting the send button. It takes 2-3 extra minutes but saves you from embarrassment if you mistakenly write and send the wrong message to your clients.

  1. Be brief, yet specific

Your response should be clear, concise and to the point. Suppose you are communicating with one on one pause before replying to the other person. If you are responding over mail, read the complete message before crafting your response.
